Review: Protea Hotel Durban Umhlanga - New Tower Rooms
The Protea Umhlanga is located five minutes up the hill from the beach and the Umhlanga pier that I just fell in LOVE. My room had a view of the pier from the window.
My only complaint about the hotel was the construction going on nearby so my window was really dirty, but in spite of ALL the dirt it was still a LOVELY view. I was in the new tower of the hotel which has nice decor. Although I initially picked this hotel because the rooms had kitchenettes. I got there and found out those are in the old tower only, but my room did at least have a refrigerator.
The staff was GREAT! I was met with a smile from everyone. The management team was lovely. They helped me with my tour plan to the mini safari and Zulu dancing. They made sure I was aware that there was 24 hour security in the area that everyone shares so they told me I would be safe walking around.
All of the hot restaurants in the area were within a one block radius of the hotel so I had plenty of food options. Pick N Pay is across the street so groceries were also easily accessible. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.
