Phi Phi Island did not meet my expectation. I am not sure what all the fuss is about this place but I did not like it. Of course my luck I picked a hotel on the end of the island so I had to walk with all my luggage to the hotel from the ferry drop off pier. I realized after the fact the people pushing the carts were the “taxis” that you could hire to wheel your luggage for you.
The highest hotel star ranking on the actual big island Phi Phi Don is 3, so I was tested to use my budget hotel picking skills. There was an odd stench that I would run across from time to time as I was walking. It’s mostly a street food setup so that smell was not making food desirable for me at all. Now I understand why people catch the ferry to Phi Phi and then get on speed boats to “other” islands to enjoy their vacation.I hadn’t done enough research to totally grasp this concept but I have lived it and learned it now.
I am thankful that I have the opportunity to be able to experience it and say whether I like it or not. The bright side to all of this is I did a speed boat tour of the small uninhabited islands and all of that was as beautiful as it is in the travel photos. There is so much beauty in the rock formations and how they sit in the middle of the ocean. The water was beautiful. The weather was perfect. It was technically rainy season so I wasn’t sure how this vacation was going to be, but it only rained the day I arrived in Phuket and it was sunny and blue skies the rest of my stay.
