Aswan, Egypt started on a very bad note for me. I got hustled to pay for a felucca boat ride to the Movenpick Aswan because my driver didn’t know where to drop me off for their free ferry. I checked into my room and the phone didn’t work and I couldn’t get the lights on. It just seemed like everything that could go wrong did.
I called the tour operator to complain about the bad drop off and he deducted the money I paid for the Felucca ride off my half day morning tour I had scheduled for the next day, so that made me feel a little better. The tour was great. I visited the Unfinished Obelisk, High Dam and Philae Temple.
I tried to walk around Aswan but the hustling was really extreme. I really wish I would have just booked a flight out that day after my tour. I definitely think guided tours are your best bet if you don’t like being harassed because the tour guides also act as a bodyguard / protector. I didn’t have any issues when I was on my tour, but walking alone was aggravating because I got tired of saying no thank you.
